So I'm thinking of heading to Paris on Sunday for the final stage of the Tour de France, probably by train.
1) Is this nuts?
2) Anyone else gonna be there?
3) Good spot to try to get to to watch? Pictures will be optional - I just want to see the madness. :-) |

GO!
It's not that crazy at all. I assume the streets will be less crowded than usual since less of us are traveling to Europe than usual.
I saw two TDF's when Bernard Hinault was ruling back in the mid 1980's. The town has a such a great buzz during the event. |

Deb!
1) Is this nuts? Yes it is.
2) Anyone else gonna be there? No. You'll be all alone rooting for a bunch of idiots showing off their shaved legs on their oh-so expensive bikes. Nobody cares for the tour de france anyways...
3) Good spot to try to get to to watch? I dunno, perhaps the Eiffel tower?
;-)
seriously though, i'm really envious that you're going (IF you're going, which you should definately do!), even though I'd personally prefer to watch tomorrows stage to mont ventoux. Though the best spots on the last climb are probably beeing occupied since last week...
Good luck and don't forget to take some photos! :) |

Yeah, tomorrow's stage is the one to watch, but I can't climb Ventoux, even with a week to do it! And I have some other stuff tomorrow that I need to be here for. By "is anyone else gonna be there" I was wondering about DPC folks. I suspect there will be a cycling fan or two hanging out to see the boys hit the cobbles in Paris. :-)
Looking at the train - I have to catch one back not too long after the finish so I may miss the whole celebration part. It's either that or find a place to stay and come back on Monday and I'm betting places to stay are hard to come by at the moment. |

1) Maybe, but in a good way
2) I wish...
3) Somewhere along the course |

I know, was just trying to hide my envy with a smart-ass sorta comment. ;-)
Concerning a couch to crash on, have you tried contacting Toy or any of the other 50 DPC'ers from Paris? You might get lucky with one of those folks on that rather short-dated plan of yours...

Sigh. One of the trains has no seats available - can't tell which one, but it really doesn't matter because there are no other options for anthing less than 5 hours at this point. So I guess I won't be going after all. Just means I'll have to come back to Europe next year, right? |

I live in Paris and being that about half of Paris has left for vacation, it should be just fine. I love Paris in the summer, it is soooo quiet.
