I submitted a good photo for Centered Composition and people gave me ~4.5 (17 votes) so far, I really deserve much higher :)

Maybe it's because the photograph is quite sad ?

Well, you're still staying ahead of me ... there's little point in paying attention to the score until there's around 80 votes.

No, that's just the way it works around here.

My two highest rated photos I didn't think were going to do very well. I mean, they really didn't, but they did much better than the rest of mine.

And the one I really thought would do well, didn't do well at all.

I seriously thought that would do decently in the motion blur challenge. Oh well.

I don't know, I doubt i'll pass the 5 for this challenge, which is very surprising imo.

movieman, that's a cool image, I like it :)

It's so hard to say what a picture will score in a challenge and why it does. For some reason, whenever I enter a picture that I really like a lot it never does very well. It's one of those odd quirks of life.

If you can, don't mind what score you get and feel glad that so many people will have looked at your picture and perhaps gained something from looking at it.

Especially, if you really like your picture, don't mind what the score is. That's how I always try and feel and it saves a lot of disappointment.

It IS easier said than done, especially when one is young like you. As you get older it becomes much easier to face disappointment and not be hurt by it - I guess because you get more practice!

it's not THAT bad.. :)
I got disappointed cuz I'm a newbie that can't spot if a photo is going to do well in a challenge, that's why.
anyway, I'll be fine.
Time to go to the polytechnique to study some, wee!

Cya later.

At least you're getting comments. I have 20 votes so far and not a single comment and my current vote is under 4. I knew I rushed into this challenge but I was anxious to enter. Lesson learned, I suppose. I am happy with the way it turned out but it's unfortunate that others don't see it the same way.

I just disappeared my scores from the front page ... this is getting ridiculous.

Seriously, I'm with you.

In five votes I went from a 6.2 to a 5.7.

I was so excited, not so much anymore though.

I'm hoping it's going to bounce back up. I hope.

I went from a 7.0 to a 5.5789. I feel your pain.

I went to 4.3 (WTF??).
I don't feel your pain :D

Still around the 3.9 - 4.0 score. Guess that's what I deserve. BUT it's still early in the voting, still alot of days to go, I may catch the 4.2 :)

I'll be ecstatic if I break 4.0 on this challenge. :)

My hopes and dreams of forever passing the 6.0 mark are shattered, as I have a 5.5 and go lower with every vote.

I can feel your pain. I thought for sure I had a 6+ image for Centered Composition challenge, but it's barely holding 5.5. Looks like many people either don't like the subject matter (non-bird, bug, flower or landascape shot) or aren't crazy about the dead center approach I used, which was what the challenge asked for.

Got me a bit p.o.'ed this morning, but hey, who gives a hoot anyway? I like my image and that's all that counts. It's gonna be a print too and I'm going to proudly display it in my home.

I try sooooo hard to NOT do the bug or flower thing even though I personally love the flower shots. But I figure the old-timers here have seen so many beauties, that you'd be very un-enthused. But then the flowers always score higher than me . . .

too early to tell yet, my last entry started at 5.5 and ended at 6.4

Funny how initially everyone talked about all the great images in this challenge, yet a number of people are talking about 3s and 4s. could the dichotomy be that great? I doubt it. sounds to me like a bunch of great images are getting pounded for technical (read: anal) reasons.

that's my opinion, and you can't have it. ;)
05/17/2004 04:30:40 PM · #23
One 10 and six 2s gives you about a 3 average ...
05/17/2004 04:37:38 PM · #24
As long as I see one 10 on my photo when the challenge is over, I feel like I did a good job... someone was touched by my photo! I can't really compete against anyone in here. We all come from different backgrounds and have different levels of photo skills. I just compete against myself. Did I do better than last time? If not, why not? And then I work harder at it. I know I deserve the scores I am getting for the Centered challenge. I didn't put my heart and mind into it. So, I won't surpass my average. But, just try to beat your own best score... that's all you can really strive for. If you do so well that you get a ribbon, congrats! It's always a possibility :)

I'm steadily dropping.so far down to a 5.1ish from the 7 I started with. The low scores themselves don't really annoy me anywhere near as much as the fact that I only have one comment, and that has no constructive comments, just something like "I have one too". If you don't like it...COMMENT PEOPLE.

There...I've vented.
