I wouldn't put a heavy SLR with a big lens on it, but it could be useful. Hey, it's a cheapie, but for only $6 you can't go wrong. Sunpak tripod on Woot.com

Well, $11 with shipping...would you trust it to hold a Rebel XT and Canon 100mm macro lens?

Perhaps. I've seen a few folks using similar tripods with light SLR's. Probably more suited for a compact than an SLR, though. I already have a hacked Manfrotto 785B that works pretty good for me. I did order three of these Sunpaks, but I intend to use them for holding lighting. I'll probably give one to my stepdaughter who lost the QR plate for a similar tripod she uses with her Powershot S5.

I have one I used to use before I got a "real" tripod. It's an ok tripod for a lightweight dslr and small lens, but don't try to use it for long exposures in a windy environment. It's so light that it shakes something terrible.

I have a sunpak tripod similar to this one. It works fine for my Rebel XS/1000D. It is a little shaky though but that's just because it's a cheap tripod. I would buy a new one if I didn't feel as if tripods were cumbersome and annoying to lug around all the time.

They can work well for holding off camera flash if you don't have light stands.
