There whas this festival here, that we have every year on 14 may in my city, took the oportunity for a few candids. I would like some opinions please.
Here we have the romanian cowboy, I don't know USA guys you might be used to guys like this but belive me in this part of the world he's just funny :)
Here is a sad one, the sadness of this person moves me, makes me wonder what could go so wrong in his life... Maybe I should of just asked him, but in situations like this I'm too embarased. There were too many colors in the background so I desaturated it.
Now this is a cute old man. Isn't he? Again I desaturated the background due to too many colors. I know he's not 100% in focus but hes so cute...
And a couple of beauties...
All are candid, I don't know who the persons are, let me know what you guys think... Thanks in advance. |

Thanks all, I'm really proud of these shots, and all your comments makes me feel right about being proud. I think I just found my thing, I am inlove with candid photography. Surprising people in theyr most intimate moments, I think I will do this more often from now. :)) |

Where have you find those people? They are verry expressive. I don't live too far from you [Brasov-Romania] but I've never soo someone like your "cute old man". Greate figures.
The only thing that bothers me is that you croped too much above their heads and that leave me the impression of a mistake or a wrong composition.
Kep up the good work ;] |

Madalina, I don't know, I guess I'm lucky, got all these in just one day. My city is much smaller than yours is, so it should be harder for me. I guess the trick is to notice them, they are what society calls them "crazy people" and are often overlooked. It's funny the guy with the flower I never noticed him before in my city, but after I took the shot, I saw him twice. Same white suit, same gift bag, different flower. I saw him last time a few hours ago.
Also before I took this shot:
I never saw that homeless guy before, I see him almost everyday after.
This reminds me of what Diane Arbus said: "I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn't photograph them."
I think we all overlook the most interesting things most of the time, and this is why I mostly love photography. It teaches me to really see. And also that's why I like more and more to take candid shots.
About the croping well there wha no mistake made, It's just how I prefered them, to be composed. Ofcourse they could have been much better composed, but I'm new to photography myself, and I can't really controll everything yet all the time. Most times especialy on candids I focus on expressions, eyes, gestures and such and forget about the composition :)
Another hint about meeting interesting people I can give you is festivals, that's when among the many totaly uninteresting and ugly facess 1 or 2 guys like these allways mix in the crowd, and find out placess where in your city crazy and homeless people hang. Usualy near hospitals because that's where sometimes they get a shelter. Most are ugly mean and can be even dangerous, but few of them are allways interesting characters. Good luck!
Cristi.
Edit: PS I really belive I whas the only one who noticed the sadness in that man's eyes staying there completely alone drinking his beer and smoking his cigarette... Nobody goes to a festival alone, unless they are lonely, and I guess that's what we see in his eyes too. A sad lonely completely left out working man. Even in the shot if you look carefuly everybody else facess the other way.
