Hi Guys,
I am a amature photographer and I wanted to see if i could sell some of my photos online or if anyone had any other ideas about where to sell them that would be great.

Well there's DPCPrints, the obvious choice here!

That definitely works, I've sold a few dozen there.

I also have put stuff up on ArtWanted and ArtBreak, as well as having my "own" website hosted by smugmug.

So far, though, DPCPrints has been the best for sales. But I've been there longer than the others. ArtWanted doesn't take ANY commission if you get paid by paypal, and I really like their gallery and promotion tools. Plus, I've gotten a number of nice comments there, which was not something I expected...but it shows people are viewing your work. (The other difference is ArtWanted is just a promotion, gallery, and payment tool--you need to do your own fulfillment. But heck, it's free) They have a great little widget for displaying your art on various websites, but I don't think it works in a forum.

ns, so by fulfillment, do you mean you as the 'artist' still have to go out and print the print?

I mean that they order through ArtWanted, you get the order info, and send the print to the customer yourself. ArtWanted collects payment through a credit card (there's a fee for that), or via Paypal (no fee or commission from ArtWanted). You can just have the print drop shipped to the customer directly from DPCPrints, or another shop like WHCC (White house custom color, a very good printing shop!)

Note that the prices you set on ArtWanted should INCLUDE local shipping (not international, you can ask for more for that.)

By the way, I can't get the ArtWanted widget to show here, since there's no forum code for it, but I have it on my MySpace page: //www.myspace.com/nrshapiro (not sure if everyone can just see it there in my profile.)

Oh I see, so if i have this correct, they are more like a payment station, versus DPCPrints, who will make up the prints for you

Yes, they manage the payments. But the key idea is exposure and promotion. I put my work on multiple websites to maximize my exposure and the potential for sales. ArtWanted seems to give me pretty good exposure...the first three pics you post every day are featured on their home page. And somehow, people find your portfolio; I haven't been actively posting there, but I get a hundred to two hundred views of my gallery each month. I'm sure I'd have more if I kept posting new stuff. I put two shots up the other day (first time in months) and I got 120 views in a few days, and about 25 comments.
