There's a strong contingent of outdoors people that are bugged the hell by him too because they think he's utilizing the climbing site to advertise for his photography. Ample haters out there for him....When you first posted that picture of Punchbowl I couldn't figure out why the name sounded so damn familiar... it's all so clear now. |
Well, I didn't find the site myself, that was all Peters. Anyway, personally I love his work although I don't believe for a second it's not heavily photoshopped with all tools at your disposal (HDR, blending modes, etc). I got sort of a kick as to how much negative energy he's generated. Maybe he IS an ass, but I do like the shots. I figured maybe I could be the hater's god if I presented them with the "smoking gun" that he photoshopped. :P |
My god, just read some of the stuff on that site, what a load of crap. It actually just sounds like a load of petulant children, especially all the quotes from "Noted Pro Landscape Photographer" ha ha.
At the end of the day what is in vogue sells, you have to adapt. Sort of like HDR/Topaz, some people love it some hate it, but it's just a fad. Good photography skills will always eventually win over the faddy processing. It sounds like most of the stuff on that site is just through jealousy that Marc sells more than they do with their "traditional" techniques, sounds like they just need to up their game a little. |
Maybe some of those noted landscape photographers can try and get an amendment passed to protect the sanctity of landscape photography. :P
Seriously, landscape photographers are the last people I'd expect to be carrying the banner of truth when they start the lie before they even get to the darkroom...

This is from Marc Adamus' own site:
Originally posted by Marc Adamus: We are well into a new and exciting generation of photography that is incredibly more limitless than ever before. I embrace this new generation. The digital age allows us to overcome many of the technical challenges that confounded ways of communicating such experiences to you by photographers in the past. It is an exciting time to be landscape artist. It is a time that enables my creativity and my ability to express my experiences in nature to you more deeply than ever before.
Even in the hands of a master, a camera alone will never capture Nature as we can observe it with all of our senses. My goal is to illustrate the rich experiences I have had in this multi- dimensional world as best as I can within the limits of this two-dimensional medium. Although I generally don't add or remove anything significant from my images, there is never an absolute definition of what I saw in the image to begin with. How we see is a very personal thing. To this point, I believe a great photograph is not merely documenting the scene at hand, rather it is about fusing the essential vision of the artist with the landscape.
I believe the most important quality of a photograph, as in all of art, is to evoke an emotional response. While everything in nature does this for me, selecting just the right places and moments to make a photograph that conveys those emotions is far more difficult. My camera is one of the tools I use to achieve my final results, the images you see here. No one tool is perfect, however, and no one tool can make a great artist. My processes involve meticulous attention to detail in my field technique, along with work in todayâs digital darkroom to fine tune, optimize and adjust contrasts, colors, tonalities, luminosity, etc. in an attempt to better present to you the experience I felt in being there myself. |
Doesn't sound like he is trying to come off as an absolute purist. Who has time to create a whole site or sites dedicated to attacking an individual anyway??

Perhaps the person who is the subject of the attack. I think he is having this done just to draw attention to himself. With the help of a few sockpuppets.
Hmmmmmm, noted woody photographer.....
Noted. |

this is defently photoshopped.. if you look at the left of the image on a really bright laptop screen you see there is a few black and dark spots, which looks like there is a bit of a overlay or something going with a white fluffy cloudy effect.. and also how is the smaller rock on the left lit up if the sun pointing in the other direction.. hmmm anyhow.. YAY to photoshop hahaha. |

Holy pancakes, Batman!
I can't believe how much time and effort has been put into trashing this photographer. Some people have way too much time (and resentment/feelings of inadequacy) on their hands.
I like his work. Photoshopped or not. Heck, I've sure PS'd the hell out of some of my landscape images (Shh! Don't tell the landscape photo police) - sadly they still don't look as good as his. |

Try this: Place one of his landscape photos on a layer above your own. Keep the opacity at 100%. I think you'll get good results with this technique. |
