...and in a tree!

I was at a local park with my son this past weekend and he spotted this black snake coming out of a tree. We watched it from a short distance as it went across a short grassy area and then back up into the next tree. Guess it was hunting for food? I thought they could smell food (like eggs in a bird nest, etc...)?

Photos pretty much SOOC (resized and sharpened for web).
