I noticed a weird thing in my free study photo, the votes from participants were considerably higher than the votes from non participants! In ever other photo I've entered into a challenge it's been the other way round.

Avg (all users): 6.1429
Avg (commenters): 8.0000
Avg (participants): 6.2717
Avg (non-participants): 5.7941

What about this particular photo reversed the trend?

I can't say why the non-participants didn't like it... all I know is that this was one of my favourites from this months FS and I gave it an 8.

Perhaps the non-participants don't know a great photo when they see it?

I'm not huge on the saturation because I feel like at a certain point it tends to pool in certain areas, but having said that, I would have probably given you an 8 or a 9 for being contrarian on several levels: texture, color, composition.

I think it's beautiful.

As for the scoring, maybe a few bad eggs in the non-parts gave everyone 1's or something.

Free studies have a lot more entries than any of the other challenges; ergo, the percentage of non-participants voting is presumably quite a bit lower? For whatever that's worth...

I think that maybe the non participants like color better.

FWIW, several of the top 10 winners also had this issue. So I think it's probably aligned with what Bear_Music said.
