Hi,

Ive been asked to do some portrait photography (which could well lead more work), so Im looking to invest in a simple set up. Im thinking of getting two strobes and softboxes. My question is what wattage should I go for? Is 300w too much or not enough? Im also based in the UK so if anyone can recommend a set up they already use that would be great.

Also, Im shooting with a canon 5D and will probably use a 50mm 18 lens.

Thanks for all your advice!

Tim

I just bought some Alienbee B800 strobes off a guy on the FM forums... They are 320 W/s. They put out a lot of light. You should be fine with something in the 300 range.

I found a great starter set at //www.skaeser.com/

I got three strobes (they just plug into normal wall outlet). It also came with one umbrella, one softbox, barndoor, snoot, light stands, carry bag, speedring for softbox, a honeycomb, and color filters for lights. I think it was about $300 - - which for all of that, is a really good deal. Had the set for 1 year and it hasn't failed me yet. Also, you get really fast service.
