Okie doke,
I like to search online and find out what I can myself before asking people here for advice. Nothing personal but I know this forum gets clogged up rather fast.
Anyways- I have a shoot next month and a meeting in a week with a singer/songwriter to do her promo pics, album art and press pack. I'm charging my usual hourly rate of $100 and the shoot is probs gonna be 4-5 hours long, editing maybe 2-3 hrs.
That's the easy part.
Next comes the licensing to the pictures which is where things get cloudy: the pics will be used on the cd itself, promo posters for the album and her website, with the chance for further usage on tshirts, tour posters and tickets.
I am at a total loss as to what to charge for these. I asked for a budget but they don't have one yet and I have asked what pics, how big, where, when and how long for.
I don't want to sell myself short but don't want to be totally capitalist so I'm thinking:
***** $1000 usage rights for a year limited to the album, album promo posters and website pics (incl myspace, facebook, bebo and sites relevant to the musician, not the personal page). Pics only allowed for these specified uses and other usage rights are negotiable *****
What you reckon?
I contacted a band-manager friend of mine who i worked for in the past when I was just starting but this is the next level.
