I entered this based on the description "Make an image that whispers serenity, simplicity, harmony. Make an image as silent as can be." I thought this was very much in the spirit of the challenge. None of my comments made it clear, so was it DNMC or a bad picture?

I felt this is a beautiful moment with wonderful processing. The bottle, the couch and the blanket all give me the feel that this is a "snapshot" moment, rather than an image deliberately taken for the challenge. Even so, I gave it a 6.

I gave it a 6 because I liked the processing and the moment captured. I can understand the sense of peace but if I were looking for a meditative scene, this would not be my first choice (so hence the 6 and nothing higher).

I'm thrilled for a 6, thank you! But 31 4's? Was it really that bad? I didn't get one bad comment. I was happy with this one because my last 4 entries sucked (no effort on my part) and I thought this would be my "I'll take this seriously again" entry. Ended up being a punch to the gut of my confidence though...

I would assume that the people that thought it was a DNMC would've given below 5.

No need to feel that way. It's a lovely and heartwarming image, and the comments reinforce that. It's just not a good fit for the challenge. Look at the kinds of images that scored well, and look at this one; the high scores went to simple, serene, reductionist images, and this one is anything but... Now that's a limited perspective on what "zen" means, I grant you, but it is what it is.

So you ought not feel bad that your wonderful, out-of-the-box image didn't score especially well. Trust me, I've been there dozens and dozens of times :-)

left the comment on the picture, but I'll post it here as well. I think it's wonderful -- I've just noticed that photos of children are underrated on this site unless they are beyond spectacular. I think it's something that is more personal once you've experienced it. Whereas it might be just "kids, aaaaagghhhhh!!!" to other people. Many other people have noticed & commented on the same thing.

I gave it a 5. Good shot, and I suppose it conveyed peace and harmony, but still didn't seem to fit the topic to me. My own entry didn't do much better.

I think its a great example of what rests the soul. Unfortunately it doesn't represent the cliche of Zen that would be depicted in the Wal-Mart art section. ;-)
