this is without a doubt one of the biggest highlights of the trip for me...we are going to meet up with our guide and we have 2 hours (=/-) to get our shots and she said the light was great this time of the year....we are getting up at 4 am in order to make our tour time of 10:45 am (we are driving from Durango)...we have several varying times for the driving time...this will allow us all the time we need...(or so I hope)...do you have any words of wisdom for me on setting up the shots??? |

Im still a noob at shooting in those situations JulietNN might be a better one to ask as IMHO she is quite a bit better at it than I am. AS far as my own experience 2 hours is nothing at all in the canyons, I think our tour was around 6 or 7 hours lol.
You definitely need a sturdy tripod (can hang your bag off of it for more stability), monopod wont cut it esp if its cloudy at all that day, ND filters might come in handy if there is too much light where you want to shoot and for some sick reason manually setting the WB to about 6500 really had a nice effect on the shots where as setting it in post later on the other shots didn't come out as nice. And lastly if you are nervous at all bracket your shots by +-1 stop, chews up memory faster but can save your but in some situations. |

Janine - you might want to review this thread of the last Redrock GTG as it has info on some cheaper accomidations outside Page and close to the North Rim if you decide to go that way. They also visited anelope.

your last shot...was that in the Northern Antelope Canyon??? I will have to hunt down the wipes...I carry a micro cloth with me...I'm guessing that will not be enough??? or are you talking about "wet" wipes?...our guide Carol Bigthumb said that the "beam of light" has been really good for the past several wks as the sun is straight above and it has been hitting the canyon between 11:30 and 12:30 each day (varying as the season progresses)....not sure if we should leave Durango the night before and stay someplace on the way (before Page) so we don't have so far to go on that morning???
Thanks for the input...I might have to ship my tri-pod home as I have a big old honker and it will not fit into my suitcase and I don't think I should try to carry it on... |

This is Cadillac ranch, located in the Texas panhandle. I passed it on my way back from Albuquerque a couple of months back, but did not have time to stop. If you get near Dallas/Ft. Worth, make sure to stop in for a visit.
Nevermind, I see someone else beat me to identifying it.

If your going to Amarillo.. Go to the Big Texan Steak House.. food is just average.. but it's one of those places you have to tell everyone you ate there=)
Also if you are going near the Texas lousianna border you might want to stop by Caddo Lake. It's Between Shereveport and Dallas just off of I-20. |

Since you will be going to Orange Co., check out Surf City, USA (Huntington Beach, CA--25 minutes from Disneyland), ...
On your way up to S.F. (from Southern California), there are over 20 Missions to photograph...
Don't forget Los Angeles...
Also in Orange County, Laguna Beach...
Disneyland is nice...
When crossing the desert, don't forget to take one of these...
Be careful and have fun!
