I have some questions about validation. Yesterday I received the ominous email from Dpchallenge SC that my picture “Rusted but Still Trusted” needed to be verified.( I believe I can mention it now that voting is over)
First off panic hit me my computer got a virus and I had to reinstall the operating system.
I lost a lot of photos but I saved as many as I could to disc. After a brief scan of my reinstalled photos I did not see my original. Gulp! I thought for sure I saved it as this happened during the challenge voting period.
Like the SC are going to believe me when I say I had to scrub my hard drive hmm.
Dammit, I thought and it was my best score to date a 5.35 and in 65 percentile.
Resigned to just telling them to DQ me I thought to take one more closer look. Voila!
There it was, LOL, my original with all its EXIF data. Whew!
Okay now for the questions.
This was a fair to middling placement why would a verification request come 2 days after voting closed?
Is the SC so swamped?
Does it take time to view the photo first then send the email notification?
And in the rules it states “Typically proof is requested during the voting period and the week after voting ends.”
So does this mean one-week to the day exactly that voting ends; I can delete the original from my computer if I wish?
Just wondering is all.

Good question. I was planning on deleting my originals after the challenge ended too. Just to make room on my harddrive. I only keep jpgs that have been altered by me for perfection. I don't want to keep the original if I am not going to use it. I don't shoot in RAW.
So, when can we safely delete pictures without fear of a DQ request? |

why wouldn't you back up your originals to either another hard drive, or a CD-R, or a DVD-R, or zip drive or something first?
about the validation request... there was a slew of them for that challenge, and I think, if I am not mistaken, that one just happened to rec've "request proof" votes at that time.
Sorry for the delay.
Swamped? Hmm. Sorta beginning to feel that way. We are also in the middle of selecting new SC members, so hopefully the edge will be taken off in future.

Agree with Karen. You never know.
I was asked today for a print of shot I took here in 03. Keep your photos if you can. |

Sorry Karen but you never answered my question,
When is it safe to delete originals from your hard drive, (If you wish)of submittions?
If you say that DP reserves the right to ask at anytime and if you delete or lose the data after say... 3 weeks after closing you risk a DQ
that is fine ,heck it's y'alls bandwidth anyhow.
Heck I respect that many keep everything and everything they keep is good.
But some people are hard drive minimalists and dispose of things.
I am not trying to stir the pot here just trying to satisfy my curiosity.
Cheers ,
