According to rumors:
15.1 megapixels
ISO 100-25600
7 fps
Digic V
Movie-mode: 1080p with 30 and 24fps
Build in GPS for geo-tagging
Only a SD-card slot (no CF)
148×109×75mm and 738g
It is suppose to be announced the end of August. Is anyone planning on purchasing one besides me? What do you think of movie mode?

Maybe... I will go for a 5D (old one) or the replaced 50D.
The video has to be less then the 5D2 for sales purposes, so maybe no manual adj like they just added in firmware to it. I don't see the inbound geotaging personally but maybe. I suspect they might cut down the ISO range on the top end a bit so as to not hit the 5D2.
Will see at some point..... |

So far, I've not been impressed with the movie mode in still cameras, nor the still mode in movie cameras. Each seems to be a compromise to me.
I'd be a bit surprised to see it out this soon. That would be a less than 1 year life span for the 50D.
But hey, I've been wrong before... Ask my wife... ;-)

I don't see them going SD...as this looks like a minor upgrade (CPU and firmware).
GPS tagging has been rumoured for awhile, i think it's an add-on to the 5D but I may be wrong (like a grip or the WiFi device).
Hows does the rumoured size compare to the 50?
As for ISO, I don't expect all those high numbers to be worth a damn. The 5D2 can do 6400 pretty well - it's usable. The 12k and 25k ISO's are useless.

| Me, I'm upgrading to one of those bargain priced 40D's that the rest of you will be selling off in order to afford the newest toy. |

I don't see what use a movie mode is on a DSLR - it's a feature I know I'll never use.
And as for the switch to a new battery and SD cards, that just annoys the hell out of me. What in the world are we all supposed to do with our hundreds of dollars worth of CF cards that just lost their use in future upgrades? It only benefits Canon, since now we'll need to buy additional memory and batteries all over again.
And a little off topic, but along the same lines - I saw on DPreview today that one of the camera brands is adding code to their firmware that will only allow the camera to use branded batteries, and not third-party ones. Sure, rip us off some more!

Working in an industry that does the same thing (Toner cartridges are often chipped to thwart 3rd parties), I can say their justification may be partially valid. They will say this is to maintain performance, reliability and to prevent damage to the device. I have several Ultralast batteries for my camera and they work just fine. In my own industry, aftermarket supplies vary. Some are ok, and some are complete garbage. I'm sure batteries are the same way. |

I already have a video camera and don't use it. I don't think I'll be using the movie mode on the 60D. I would rather have Canon dedicate their resources to higher ISO with less noise.
Personally, I believe that Canon has to do some of the upgrades (memory, battery, movie mode) to keep up with the competition- Nikon. It's a marketing decision.

I would absolutely LOVE the HD video function !!! I'd just fear the file sizes, as my current, non-HD camcorder creates huge files on short videos that my little laptop chokes on.
Can you imagine shooting videos with the wide choice of lenses? It would be funky. I wonder if you're limited to three minutes, though, which would be a deal-breaker for me.

That's exactly what the release I read was saying - it was to "protect" the consumer from defects/shorts/explosions of third-party batteries.
Problem is, I've been using 3rd party batteries since my first digital camera, and I've never had a problem with any of them. And at $20 vs. Canon's $50+, it's not a hard decision.
So what comes next? They'll chip memory cards and lenses to "protect" us, too? ;-)

You could be right. I compared my 40D with the photo and could not see any difference. Is that just a coincidence?
What I find interesting is the text underneath the photo. It show using a SD or CF card. That goes against recent rumors.
And here's any "photo" of the 60D - completely different. |

If you translate the page it says "SD, non-CF". That's just the translator, I don't actually know this language. |

It's a Taiwanese site, so it's in Chinese. But the character before CF does mean °non-° or °not°. |

Per //www.canonrumors.com/category/photography/canon-60d/
60D Rumor
Someone claiming to have seen the final proofs for the 60D brochure says these are the specs of the upcoming 60D.
I¡¯d love to see a photograph of the brochure. All submissions are anonymous!
Here are some of the specs:
- sensor seems to be a tweaked version of the current 15MP sensor (better
DR, better high ISO IQ, eliminated pattern banding at high ISO)
- 98%-coverage, 0.96x magnification VF
- 3¡å, 1150K-pixel, active-matrix, organic LED display (25% higher-res than
current 960K screens)
- 19-pt., all-cross type area AF ellipse (basically, the current 1-series AF
point layout w/o the 26-pt. assist AF pts.; the new 1-series apparently will
have an all-new 45-pt., all-cross type AF module; what limits Canon from
drastically reworking the AF-point layout is the fact that all the currrent
Speedlights have AF-assist beam patterns that are designed only for 7, 9 &
45-pt. AF layouts¨Cthey just can¡¯t make a new area AF design or add more AF
pts. that easily because of that).
- 1080p@30fps full HD video with full manual controls and contrast-
detect AF, stereo audio inputs
- 7.4FPS@14-bit mode (CIPA-standard testing method)
- new DiGIC V is more than 2x faster than current DiGICIV, enables
onboard processing of all those DPP functions still not done in-camera
with the current cams (i.e., lateral CA correction, geometric
distortion correction, better highlight & shadow detail extraction,
plus new ¡°Diffraction Elimination¡± function: pixel-level contrast
enhancement and sharpening to counteract aperture-related diffraction
effects)
- AE microadjustment; +/- 3 EV range with 1/6EV steps; separate saved
corrections for Evaluative, CWA, Partial and Spot metering
- new higher capacity, slightly higher-voltage (to drive the faster
mechanicals & electrical readouts for the higher framerate), chipped
Li-Polymer battery (LP-E7), with new, magnesium-alloy framed BG-E7
battery grip with AF-ON and mini-joystick selector buttons duplicated
- lastly, an all-new, pleasantly surprising ¡°feature¡± that would bring
a smile to all the Canon loyalists (just watch for it) ;)

The following would make me a very happy camper:
Canon 7D/60D
14MP, FF sensor
ISO 100-25600
6 FPS
19 point AF
No Video (although its addition would not detract)
Hot shoe commander like Nikon CLS
Weather-sealed
~2000 USD
What do you guys think? This is my wishlist..

I owned a 5D and it was a nice camera, but I shot mostly birds and insect so I went back to the 1.6x crop factor.
I like the fast FPS as it comes in handy for birds in flight.
I like the high ISO with less noise as I can pick objects out of the deep shade better.
The movie mode in just a "toy" IMO and something I will probably not use.
The 15MP will allow me to crop, when necessary, and still have a descent size print.
I guess it's a matter of usage as to what features you would like. If I was starting from scratch, I would take a serious look at Nikon as they seem to have the better cameras right now. Unfortunately, once you get locked into accessories (esp. expensive lenses) it is difficult to switch over. Regardless, it is time to trade in my 40D. I will purchase the 60D as soon as it hits the street.
