A relative just gave me a Nikon N8008, a late 80's film SLR. I will probably shoot some film now that I have a decent film camera. It has two lenses:
-AF Nikkor 28-85mm, 1:3.5-4.5
-AF Nikkor 24-50mm, 1:3.3-4.5
A quick image search for Nikon lenses suggests these may may be compatible with present day Nikon digitals.
Can anyone offer me a quick lesson on Nikon lenses? |

Any AF Nikon lens will be compatible with any Nikon dSLRs, though some of the bodies without a focus motor won't auto-focus if the lens is not AF-S.
Just keep in mind that you turn an Nikon lens the other way to mount it on the camera.
What do you want to know about Nikon lenses? |

You just answered my main questions. I was just curious if I found a used digital Nikon if these lenses would also work on it. Since I have a Canon, I didn't know. The camera has a big "AF" printed on the body, so at least with this camera I have it. Thanks. |

Nikon has excellent backwards compatibility unlike Canon. You can even use a manual focus lens on a digital body (I use an old MF 105mm f/2.5 on my D200), though some of the oldest MF lenses do not have cutouts for the contacts on the camera's lens mount and will damage them.
Here is a compatibility chart that shows which lenses you can use on which bodies and whether you will get auto focus or not. |
