I'm taking pictures of a lady friend tonight, and she will be soaked wet. I want to take some shots (among others) that will emphasize on the goosebumps on her skin (yes the water will be cold). I'm not a pro, but I'm guessing the lighting will greatly affect the effect.
I have a SB600 speedlight that I plan to use in commandeer mode with a reflector/diffuser umbrella. And (I know it's not the best) a lot of house lamps (tungsten).
Some tips or hints?

I'm a newbie on lighting, and my own method is to shoot with the light a few different ways, then see which one works. But since nobody else has offered any ideas...
Having the lighting at a side angle to the model is probably what you need. Broad and highly diffused light from the front will likely tend to hide the goosebumps. |

The cold water could be kind of nasty for your model esp with the cold shock when applying it unless of course she likes that sort of thing, you may be better off for both of you if you soak her down with room temp water and then have a fan GENTLY blowing on her which should give a slight chill and produce the goosebumps ;) just a thought...
I thought I posted this earlier but something went amuck I guess...

On the lighting I agree with Yo_Spiff that a strong angle between the model and light is key to bring out the texture of the bumps, if the effect is too strong or to subtle then just have the model rotate toward or away from the light source till you get the effect you are looking for. |

The cold idea was her idea, so I guess she's comfortable with it, but I'll suggest the fan idea.
The shoot will a wet-tshirt theme, but not "daytona beach spring break" wet tshirt, I'm looking for a more grundge mood, but still sexy. So I'm looking for more creative angle than just "Hey look, a see-tru tshirt!", so that's when we got the idea for the goosebumps.
I'll play with the light. It'll be during the evening so not much natural light so I'll have more control over the different light sources.
Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it went |

Yes, Please! ;)
i have to agree with the suggestion about lighting. undiffused light from the side/above will give a nice light play on the skin emphasizing the goose bumbs.
for this shot i used my sb24 fired remotely from upper right of the model. the resolution makes it hard to see but if look closely you'll notice the goosebumps on her legs. |
