I just joined this site and I am eager for opinions. I only uploaded 4 pictures to start, but I would truly like to know what your opinions are of the following picture;

I have been a volunteer fire fighter for 18 years, but the last 6 or so I have only photographed scenes due to heart problems. I took this shot in 2006. Thanks for looking.

This is a nice close-up. The flames and the water streaming from the hose are both good points of interest. I might have liked to see a bit more of the whole scene. More building and more flames would definitely add more drama. Also, try to download a smaller file. Something below 150-200kb is pretty much the norm around here. Welcome to the site! I hope you have fun here.

Thanks for the comments. I will try to shrink the pictures tonight or tomorrow so they fit to form.

These particular fire fighters coats are actually a little more grey then they are black. With these particular coats the heat actually causes the gear to lose its color. Following this fire we replaced their gear because it actually had pink colors showing meaning it had sustained too much heat over time and was less effective. I do agree that the pictures exposure was off though and I need to learn how to adjust it. As far as getting a side angle or so, that was just not possible. The heat off of this fire was close to 700 or more degree's so it would have destroyed my equipment. I was so focused on the fire fighters though that I agree that I missed some of the structure and probably missed some of the good stuff burning. I'm learning though and all these comments help out very much. I really would like to be more artistic with my images.

I'd definitely upload JPGs... a 2MB PNG file is a bit of overkill :) Nice shot, though!

This look any better? Opened your image in CS3 photoshop and used a Topaz Adjust filter called "detailed" on it, nothing else...

Here is my take..

I took Bear_Music's pic and did some Dodge/burn thru Levels layers
Added a clarity preset thru Topaz and changed the layer to Overlay
then a little Noise reduction

I really like what was combined by Bear_Music and LVicari. It gives this image a much more artistic look. Although it looks less like a photo to me now, this is the kind of image I would aspire to blow up and hang at the station. Nice work.
