originally set the camera up for taking fish pics with fluro mode with the white balance thingi....forgot I'd done that, so blueish tones to all my non-auto shots. Lesson learned.....check ALL the settings :)
took this late this afternoon.....not enough light, would like to try again. What sort of settings work best for action shots, also how would you crop a pic like this (did try cropping the ball out but the pic lost something).....would appreciate some advice please
thanks - sue

I tend to use as litle in-camera settings as possible. The withe-balance and other things are more easily controled in the "digital darkroom" (I think).
About the croping. I would not crop out the ball, it gives it something. But I think that I would give it a significant croping from below, croping out most of the stonewall. |

Wildly 'wrong' WB settings will lose some information in the digital 'negative' unless you're in RAW mode.
Sue - I would crop along the topmost complete line of bricks, and quite heavily in behind the dog, to balance the position of the animal with the placing of the ball. A little work in levels or curves to get the brightness/contrast sorted and I think you'll have a nice shot. Motion blur on the ball is good, and that slight expression of disappointment on the dog is great.

thanks Ed ...here's the cropped version - changes the focus which I like
she's a very good subject to practise with as she's always willing to keep going......need to get out in better light though as she moves quickly
