Skip's "For Eternity" thread just kinda sparked something I hadn't really thought about consciously 'til now.

It's truly amazing to me how I get to be a part of exquisite moments in peoples' lives, and how they get to be mine to keep as well simply by virtue of being there, without even getting into the added bonus of capturing the moment as well.

I have been feeling particularly warm and fuzzy about this moment having been at my first wedding since being serious about photography.

This is my friend Kristin, with her Dad, having that wonderful quiet last few moments before he gives his "little girl" away to the man she's marrying.

Her husband is my daughter's drum teacher, and I got to know her just from chatting with her while my daughter was having her lessons, and about four months ago, I took a shot of her sitting by the window in the late afternoon sun, and she really liked it.

Turns out she very rarely photographs well (What *IS* it about some perfectly lovely people that they just DON'T photograph well????), and I managed to get a lovely image of her......one thing led to another and we decided that it'd be fun if I came to their wedding and did some candid shots.

I insisted that she hire a real pro for the obligatory wedding album stuff, and that I'd just, unobtrusively of course, rove around getting the semi-random candids that are so much fun at any gathering.

This moment above, as anyone knows from being at a wedding, is an intimate, poignant time, and to have been nearby, and able to get this image just completely filled my heart. The official photog was in place where he'd get the necessary shots of them coming down the aisle so he wasn't there.....which means that this shot is the only one of this moment.

I'll see her this Thursday at Eleanor's drum lesson, and I know she'll love it, and to be able to give her a copy of this just makes me so happy! I know that I can't ever get a big, bad D3x or some such thing by giving away prints like this, but I cannot even begin to describe how honored and delighted I am to have been a part of this wonderful day in my friends' lives!

Sometimes it's sooooooo not about the money for me.

If you're so inclined, I'd love to make this thread for those of us who revel in the good fortune that we have to be part of the wondrous moments in others', and our lives.

Share 'em & tell the story......

This photo was taken at the birth of a dear friend's 12th child. This is the older brothers and sister meeting their new sister. I love that they just seem so captivated by the baby.

And you know...sometimes even when I'm trying to make money, it's just SOOOOO NOT about the money. You and Skip are right - it's just about being there.

I've been processing some shots for some shows.

Some of the shots for the show are good, but there are also some shots at the end that are pretty neat too.

Here's one that shows some really pure emotion. Every time I have gone back to edit it, it has almost caused me to tear up, just from seeing it. It's not even a very good shot technically.

This girl was the director of the play for the class I'm in (so I'm a little biased). That night was the culmination of around 4 months of very hard work. The play swept the contest for awards and it was pretty incredible to taste the emotion in that group. Sheer triumph.

They really did an amazingly good job and I suspect that they will never forget that evening. I hope I won't.

The shots afterward are particularly potent because they display genuine emotion, not acting.

Jeb,

Sometimes images we treasure most, are shot by friends.

Some 36 years ago, we had a pro at our wedding, and he did a great job. A friend, who was no slacker as a photographer, was there as well.

It is one of our friend's images that caught us in a moment alone, right after the ceremony, that we treasure most. It seems to have, as your image seems to have, captured the joy and emotion of the moment.

I think perhaps it is because we know them, and care for them, that we can catch a moment that is meaningful for a lifetime.
