The rusted challenge was one that others and I had suggested for the site, so it was one that I wanted to do really well in. When I started preparing for it I had a definite idea in mind. I wanted the old six-shooter to look as though it had been hanging on the wall a long, long time to match the appearance that it got while it was buried. My problem was lighting, I could never get it right. I don’t have any photo lamps, the one lamp I had burned out as soon as I plugged it in, so I was doing the best I could with what I had at hand. You won’t believe how easily the rusted thing washed out, and how much light the old door I placed it against sucked up.
With all of this in mind here is an out take from the challenge.
Now you guys did it to me when I started getting those helpful comments on a picture that I knew was poor to say the least. You took the time to write 21 comments on a mediocre entry, 20 of which were all intended to help me improve. This is what this site is all about, thank you so very much.
I decided to try it again and came to a final conclusion: This pistola was the hardest damn thing that I ever tried to photograph.
Enjoy,
Dick

I don't know how you would do it, my suggestion is a jet black background and have the gun upright in a firing postion, ie. as if you were pointing it to one side of the camera.
Maybe hanging on string or fine line, of course with basic editing you couldn't clone the string out.
Just an idea for a good subject.
typo edit.

Thanks Paul,
That might work, one of these days I may try again.
