What do ya'll think about this?

Web-Watchdogs

A loose partnership of individuals who periodically scan through participant's sites, looking for broken links, busted functionality, typos, bad grammar, as well as offering basic constructive feedback.

--------------------------------

Simply ask to have your site added to the list and agree help others. The best way to do this would be to upload a screenshot of your homepage to your portfolio; if you're not dpc member, then you'll have to rely on PM's for feedback.

Just like comments on photos, you don't need to be harsh and ill-toned. By the same token, you might need some thick skin on the receiving side. The key is to be helpful and considerate. If someone puts up a site that REALLY needs help, consider using a gentle pm rather than blasting them out in public.

I can commit to moderating this thread, as well as actively participating in it. However, if it becomes a target for spam or for people selling their consulting services, we'll have to revisit the premise and its viability.

--------------------------------

So, if you have a website you want checked out and/or if you're willing to help check out fellow dpcer's websites, jump in!

I'd be happy to proof read. Clumsy grammar and spelling errors always put me off exploring a website.

I'm not much of a proof reader but I'm will to offer anything I know about websites and suggesting ideas.

Count me in.

cool! i'll put ya'll on the watch-dog list.

there were a couple things that gave me this idea. one is the frequency of the "hey-look-at-my-site" threads. the other was this: i happened to visit a member's site and immediately found a busted link and some way out of date stuff (a blog that hasn't been updated in 11 months 13 days). personally, i'd appreciate a "heads-up, you're zipper's down" if someone found stuff like that on my site, especially if it was a professional site...

Skip,

Got your email earlier today, at work, and just had the chance to respond! Sure, count me in. I find myself responding to a lot of the "hows my site" polls. In fact... I just updated my site, so howsaboutsa critique :)!

www.adammathiasphotography.com.

Work done- added a links page, updated several photos, changed how the music works (and yes, my music IS LEGAL TO USE), put in a new logo, added a green page, etc etc.

Now, anyone else want one too?

Thanks for the PM, Skip. Count me in. I hope to have my own photoblog site to add soon. Real soon.

Sounds awesome! I'm in the middle of a complete overhaul/replacement of my photography website now (with the addition of a blog, so-help-me)... so I'll definitely love to get some helpful eyes double-checking it soon. While I'm not the best "self-checker," I'm notorious for finding others' grammatical and spelling errors, so I think I could contribute as a "checker" as well.

just got a critique from dtremain on my site, and wanted to give a big public thanks. his critique was very nice and helpful, and would definately enjoy him officially jumpin on the web watchdogs wagon.

If I might be so bold as to nominate someone who is conscientious and knowledgeable in a real world way...... TeaFran is a pretty decent fellow for feedback....

Hey Skip, thanks for the PM. I'm happy to help out and have a look at some sites.

I'm more about the structure / navigation though than the spelling and grammar, for me it's all about the consistency and feel of a site, I'll happily click all the links and see if they confuse me!

My fellow Web-watchers, I've become subjected to the "hey check out my site" syndrome and I ask that you give me some feed back on my new redesigned site.

www.josephsalmi.com BTW this is a smugmug site.

I do have a few pages that I have not created yet but in short they will look just like the other pages haha

I like how the slide show works but I would try to align your links with your images so it all lines up. You have it lining up on your about me page but your other pages it's a bit off.

you might also try to change the look of your links, make them more personal and interesting to the viewers.

All of the images look really soft to me; don't know if that's intentional. Scrolling through the images one-by-one, they are superimposing over the thumbs, which works ok on horizontals (except the "ng" on "under testing" is peeping, but I guess that will get lost soon), but on the vertical images we can see the thumbs jutting like wings on both sides, and I don't care for that...
