Rusted was my new lowest score (yay?), which I'm only somewhat surprised by. I knew some people would not be able to see the rust, but I didn't expect so many people to have a problem with it. Despite the 19 ones, I'm still pleased with this photograph.
This is another that I considered for submission, but thought to be extremely boring, and a tad out of focus. This is, however, the same axe. It would likely have done better, but I don't care for it as much.
This low will be beaten by my Opposites entry next week ;) |

Actually, I prefer the one you didn't enter. There is more to interest the eye. The texture of the blade and the handle add far more to the pic. Your original entry seems to lakc a subject (I can say this cause I have the same trouble sometimess). It's an axe against a red background. Not really much in the way of rust for the challenge. Not a great deal to interest me. Keep on Keeping on.

I like the top shot better, but it screams "POSED". as an axe standing vierically against a red wall with a bit of a weed in the right doesn't seem interesting. Maybe if the crop wasn't so tight it might have worked better.
I have to admit after seeing so much rust in all the other images, the little rust spots just didn't stand out on the Axe |

Thanks for the feedback. For the most part, the one I entered wasn't very posed.. I positioned it next to the leaves, but otherwise it is usually leaning against that wall or near it. I took several shots of it there, and it was set up for a wider photo, but the rust wasn't as visible from further away so I decided on the tighter crop. :)

The reason it may look a bit posed to others (including me) is that most people would no more store an axe with the head up than they would leave a loaded gun in their children's toy chest. Having been a homebuilder for a few years I have learned that those who do not respect kinetic energy will soon learn to. An axe leaned up against a wall with the heavy end up will fall away from the wall at the worst possible time, sharp edge leading, like when ther is another person's hand in the way. Please start storing the axe head down, it is alot harder to hurt someone that way. If nothing else your insurance company will love you for it.
