TooCool, I've seen a technote about disabling Windows XP's built in burning driver if it conflicts with Nero. I'd be surprised if there wasn't something on that at the Ahead software site.
I've used Nero for about 3 years now, ever since Adaptec (/Roxio) made me waste several full days recovering my computer from their stupid upgrade instructions, where when you uninstalled per the instructions you completely lost access to all your CD drives, leaving your PC not only trashed, but difficult to fix/upgrade, since the CD drives needed to reinstall were inaccessible in Windows. I had so many problems with Adaptec/Roxio upgrades, I swore I would never send them another cent.
On the other hand, I have several licenses for Nero, and I have had it installed and reinstalled and upgraded them on a half dozen machines and different OS's over the past years. Installation and upgrades were never a problem. So don't give up on it. There's something else at play.
Are you trying to use Nero InCD (the packet writing program), or the Nero stand-alone CD authoring program. I only use the latter. Packet writing is for the birds. When you do this, you are asking for trouble. You could have several important files backed up on a CD, and when a week later, you add more, poof, no more CD. Or when you finally close the CD, it could be damaged. Or it just may be unreadable. (This experience is actually from Adaptec's CD packet writing software, which I used many years ago, I've never used any packet writing software since.
Using multisession writing on the stand-alone tool is safer, since you can always (or almost always) recover a prior session. I don't recommend using packet writing (using the CD like a hard drive).
As to recovering your files, you should turn that PC off and leave it off until you get someone there who knows how to recover files. They are all, or most all, still there, in all likelyhood. But the more you do with the PC in the meantime, the less likely that becomes. |
