I'm thinking about selling my current camera setup and have two questions:

1) What is a fair asking price? I have the following (all in excellent to very good condition, used only a handful of times and always indoors):
-Nikon D300
-Tamron AF 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD IF Macro Lens
-Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR ZL Di LD Aspherical (IF) with Built-In AF Motor
-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom
-Quantaray 50mm f/1.8
-Nikon SB-600 Speed Light
-Lowepro Mini Trekker AW
-Lens filters for all lenses
-Several high speed CF cards

2) What is a good point and shoot that will provide some flexibility and high quality pictures? I loved the D300 but I'm just not that serious a photographer and find the capability of a dSLR more of a hassle for the kind of photographer I am.

Thanks for the information/help!

Check out the Canon G10 as a versatile p/s--will still do full manual stuff, has a hot shoe, and RAW capability if you need it someday. I and several of my friends have the G10 and really like it.

It's hard to say what a "fair" price would be. Surf your local Craigslist and Ebay to get an idea of what to ask for. Its seems that most people are unrealistic in what they are asking for on a used item that can't be returned and no warranty. My local reputable photo store will pay around 40% of retail. I'm guessing 70-75% (of retail) might be a starting point if you are going the Craigslist route.

You have to realize that digital cameras depreciate quickly since new models with better features come out making the older models somewhat obsolete.

The camera bag, filters, and memory cards are almost an incentive item (buy this, I'll throw in this) type of thing.

Hope that helps a little. Good luck.

Pricing is difficult to predict. In the past when I sold lenses I normally expected 80% of retail value, assuming top notch condition. Bodies are different as as a model gets older the price can drop quite a bit. The D300 is soon to be replaced so I would say the sooner you sell it the better.

With that said the market is very soft at the moment. In addition you might have a bit of trouble selling on this site as you just registered and are not known. Might be better off on E-bay.

Goog luck.

I smell spam here. The account was created today and the first thing that appears is an ad selling a bag full of goodies?

I'm not spam, and I'm not trying to sell on this site. I'm as skeptical of new places as all of you are of new people. What I want to do is be able to make an intelligent evaluation of my equipment so if I go on eBay, Craigslist, or my local camera shop I can have a good idea of what to expect and whether I'm getting a good deal. I expect to take a pretty decent loss on it all since thats the way of used equipment (especially for a body and not a lens) but how much a loss I don't really know. Thanks to some of you for the advice and to the rest of you, I was recommended this site to help me evaluate my equipment and every poster has to have a first (and in my case, probably last).

Regards,

Don't let the "spam police" chase you away--we are usually more welcoming of new members than that. So please stick around a bit, see what you think :-)

What are your size expectations for the P&S? Do you want a really compact one? What about zoom range? Are you looking for zoom that would match the range of your 70-200 or are you happy with more of the range of the 28-70?
