With all the text allowed lately, looks like there could be oppurtunities for Personal Bests. I noticed entries in challenges with text allowed results in some really high scores. Is photography so much a part of advertising that we should critique photos in a new way? And I think photography and poetry are like peas and carrots. Sometimes a title isnt enough! |

I think it can be a plus or a minus. Nicely done text can add to an image but poorly done text can detract from an otherwise good shot. I think it does reflect on how a person can visualize things both graphically and photographically. You still have to have a complete package to score well.

Although the top three used good fonts and layout the main thing that separated them from the pack were the photo's wow factor, IMO. The first two especially. They easily stand out from the pack with or without the text.
That said, I think senor_kasper probably lost out on ribbon by not adding text. No disrespect to the 3rd and 4th place finishers but his is much more suited for an auto ad as is, IMO.

I really find myself wondering how mine would have scored without text, that's for sure. I set it up as a "back of the book" type ad, or maybe a poster-type thing, not a high-budget magazine ad...
It does seem like we've had an awful lot of text-added challenges lately, doesn't it?

This was my absolute top pick for the challenge:
I suspect lack of text on the image actually hurt this because it was an Ad challenge. |

My top 2 scoring shots on this site have text in them. Going to struggle to get them off my front page. Don't know if that's a good or a bad thing :) My pick of the challenge hands down was senor casper's shot. The lack of text probably the main problem. Also browsing through the previous Auto Ad challenge, I saw his pick and it was very similar. I presume many people voted down for that as well. |
