Thinking of purchasing a flash gun for Nikon D70. I don't want to have to spend £300 for the SB-600 or 800 models. Is there a third party flash that offers same features? Please explain the basics in flash, waht should I be looking for? I havn't a clue. I am shooting for hobby. Will need the flash for occasional holiday stuff and protraits plus parties and some amature weddings Help

Other options might include SB-28DX and SB-50DX. The 28 is nicer may cost about double though. The SB 50 DX is decent and works well as an external flash. It works cordless with your on camera flash for multiple sources of light. Might be worth looking into.

Be aware that there are compatability issues with the D70 and older Nikon flashes including the relatively new SB-50DX and SB-80DX. Most will only function on the D70 in full manual mode or non-TTL automatic (thyristor) mode (if the flash has that capability) -- which means no TTL metering. Only the SB-600 and SB-800 support the D70's Creative Lighting System and i-TTL flash control.

I was not aware of that. Thanks for the heads up! I have a friend who just bought the D70. I will let them know. Sorry to steer you wrong.

So I take it no other 3rd party companies will do a flash that supports the things that SB600 and SB800 do? What's the difference between the 600 and the 800?
