Does anyone have input on purchasing old Broncolor studio lights? They are about 15 years old 400 W/S with the umbrellas. The guy wants $500.00 for them. Any experiences? I'm going to look at them today with intent on purchasing. |

Older studio strobes have high voltage triggering circuits. Check with Canon to see if your PC plug will handle high voltage. If it won't, it can damage your camera. There are adapters made by Wein that will safely connect the systems. Hope this helps. |

Actually I found a website on how to make the adapter out of a few simple components which most of I already have. My only concern is with the age of the capacitors in the power unit. As capacitors age they dry up and produce less power in their charge. I will probably get it anyway and fix it if it needs fixing. Thanks for the reply. If anyone needs to know about the isolation circuit I can point them in the right way. |

I would like the info on the isolation circuit. I have old speedotron strobes that I would like to use with my D-300. I currently use the strobes with 35mm and med format. My strobes are over 20 years old and still work great. |

OK I purchased the lights. They are ascorlight q4s. The funny part is that they didn't work when the guy was demonstrating them to me. I asked him if he wanted to sell them half price since the bulbs were new and everything else was in good condition. He agreed. Also I got a flash meter thrown in the deal! sweet! I took it home and traced the circuit through and found a bad optocoupled phototransistor. I happened to have one in my spare parts. I put it in and wala! I now have strobes! and good ones at that! So between that and my 550 EX I am set for a while for lighting. Here is the website link for the isolator circuit. If you need help building one I could make you one for cheap. //repairfaq.cis.upenn.edu/Misc/strbfaq.htm#strboaof
