I've been looking for a new camera for a while. For about a year I've had a Finepix 2600. I took some time to surf the web and found the Olympus C-5000 and the C-5050. I need help deciding on which camera and where to get it. If anyone has some suggestions of uses either one, it would be very helpful for me if you can give me some ideas.
Thanks,
Robert |

The c5050 is great for macros and pictures in good light. It is not so good for low-light and for big landscapes. The digital zoom is worthless, but it has 3x optical zoom. It allows for 4 different types of media (for storage). It's a very good camera all around, but not perfect. Olympus has newer models out, why are you choosing an older model?

I have a friend who is also on DPC who uses a C-5050Z and he is really in love with the results it gives. I like the way it handles and the camera has a lot of creative capabilities. The C-5000 I believe is one of the newer models. I don't know how new but I know it is more recent then the 5050Z. I'm not necessarily lookingat older cameras, but Im checking out cameras with either 5 or 6 megapixels that are in my price range. If you have any other suggestions of caeras i'd love to know. |

You could check out some of the digital camera review places on the internet and see which camera in your pixel and price range they think are good cameras.
My favorite place is:
Steve's Digicams
You can easily research cameras by their megapixels here.

You may find the c-5060 interesting for wider shots. It's the wide-angled version of the C-5050. |

I liked the C-5060 but right now, I don't think I can spare the extra 180 bucks for it. Thats why I liked the C-5050 because It is almost the same except for a few things, and since its older,it's less expensive. I'm gonna check out some of those site from Sammie. |

I read the review for the C-5060 and it sounds like an amazing camera, but I think it's just a bit too advanced for me. I've only been into photography for about 3 years now and I got started digitally only about a year ago. I definantly like the 5060, but the 5000 seems like it will be easier to use for me. If you know of any other pretty good beginner/intermediate cameras, tell me. Thanks for the sites Sammie |

How much did you want to spend, Robert? It would probably be good to get a camera that is a little more advanced than you think you need right now because as you advance with your photography skills you won't outgrow your camera right away. |

If you continue to advance in your photography I thinks it's better to buy a camera that have some automatic and some manual. You will grow into it.
The cool part of the camera is if you want to take a picture of something that is huge and you are close to it, you don't have to walk really far back to get the whole image.
Read up as much as you can before buying any camera. Ask yourself the needs and wants.

I wasn't planing on spending more then maybe $450. The C-5000 has some auto and some manual features, but I guess you're right. I probably should get a camera thats a little too good for me, because hopefully I will get to the point where it won't be. Thanks a lot. |
