What do you set your 10D settings to? Mine are set to parameters, RAW w/highest JPG, sRGB.

What do you use to covert the RAW files? Do you just edit them in photoshop and "save as" your output file? I've been using the Canon converter, pros and cons?

I use Capture One for the RAW conversion, it is far superior to the Canon supplied software.

I like the Photoshop CS RAW import, but you have to open them one photo at a time, a real pain when you have 400 photos to go through (and usually delete all but 4).

I find now I shoot in JPG when I do large volume shoots simply as I find the RAW stuff such a pain. I really wish you could get a baseic quality JPG image you could easily flick through for every image and only then go and select the RAW files you need. At present I tend to batch convert everything using the base parameters and then go back a second time to the promising looking RAW ones.

As for 10D settings ..... they vary all the time with me depending on conditions and if I am experimenting with them.

You should check into BreezeBrowser. It uses the embedded JPEG's that are inclued with each 10D .CRW file when "browsing", and it allows you to quickly go through a shoot and throw away the clunkers and keep the "good shots".

When I had my 10D, I set the CF option to set the JPEG to the smallest size available (1536 x 1024 I think?), and "fine" quality (instead of "super fine"). It was still plenty good enough to allow you to determine if the shot was any good, and BreezeBrowser made the process very fast.

I then would develop the raws using Capture One DSLR; I don't really care for Adobe Camera Raw now that I've been "spoiled" by C1. I'm anxiously awaiting a release of C1 that will support the 1DM2!

Thanks guys, very helpful!

I'm trying to get used to my 10D as I haven't really had it all that long and haven't used it a whole lot. So far its great, definitly bringing back my love of photography!

I'm sure I'll post more questions as I have them...

Thanks
Dave

PS> C1 sounds great, but it seems kind of pricey. I'll check out the BreezeBrowser though, I noticed its only $50 to buy.

For the 10D, you can use C1 LE ("Limited Edition"), and it is only $99. Well worth the price of admission IMHO if you are shooting raw! The features you give up in the LE version are not "earth shattering"; you lose tethered operation, batch renaming, developing multiple image sizes simultaneously, image resizing at develop time, dual CPU support for image development, and are limited to a development batch queue of 20 images.

I'd pick C1LE over BreezeBrowser any day if I had to choose between the two...

I just started using C1 too and it is awesome!
You can't go wrong with!

There is another package that deals with raw Pro Window 3.5, I haven't used it but has a free trial (30 days) so can check it out.
