Anyone know any good data Recovery centers?

Sorry to hear about it. It has prompted me to do a backup of my own shots.

Any sort of data recovery is expensive from what I understand. Anyone have any help for Jaime?

plug the HDD unit into another computer as an external storage, then try using freeware softwares that salvage whatever it can from it. Just search the internet, too many to mention. Perhaps someone would suggest a name for you.

I feel your pain, it happened to me once before and lost about two month's worth, but now I back up files every month at least. I also use discs alot, and left one in the car on one occasion causing the data to become corrupted; I keep all discs in room temperature now.

Jamie, you may look at contacting the manufactorer of the drive- I have heard that a few of them will do it. If not, they may be able to help point you in the right direction. Good luck.

DriveSavers has had a good reputation in the past, but are not cheap. You can call them toll-free and get an estimate. Check out their "Hall of Fame" and "Museum" sections -- you'll feel better ... :-)

Yeeeoooowww! Just the thought of that hurts! I don't have any advise on how to fix the problem, but I'm really hoping that you find a way to retrieve them. :(

Professionally I have used OnTrack data recovery and I have a Local San Diego company for rush jobs. Both always retreive 97% or better of lost data, but as pointed out "Clean Room" data recovery is not cheap.

If you think it's a mechanical failure, DO NOT PLUG IT TO ANOTHER COMPUTER! It'll only make thing worse and possibly unrecoverable.

OnTrack (or similar) is the way to go. They can probably give you an estimate for a small fee. Then you can decide if the data on the disk is worth the cost of recovery.
