According to the security guard, the guy sitting in his Lamborghini owns a scalping business. He was there setting up his workers. The security guard was interested in whether or not I was with the media, as I had no media pass. The scalper was parked in front of the Rogers Centre (Skydome), but I was chatting with the security guard in a different area by the CN Tower later on.

Someone who buys up all the tickets they can for an event, and then sells them
at an unbelievable markup. Illegal in many areas.

Hell...TicketMaster is in on that gig....they advertise that tickets go on sale "Saturday". You log in...sold out ! The site says check TicketsNow...you go there...many tickets available from "brokers/scalpers"....prices very high...3, 4, 5 times face value. TicketMaster(parent company of TicketsNow) gets GIGANTIC fee from BUYER when they buy tickets from TicketsNow.
I know from personal experience.
I had presale password for a concert...Christmas present for kids...purchased 4th row seats at face value...very expensive. My wife then asks if I could buy 8 upper level tickets b/c her brother and a few parents at school wanted to take their kids. (they would buy the tics from us at face value)..
I purchased 8 more upstairs. A message comes on and says I have 12 tickets and TM MAY only allow 8. There is a chance that 4 would be cancelled.
I called TM the next morning. A rep named Mike says all ok. Says my card was charged for 12 tickets and they are all good. I said no...I want to return 4 upstairs tics to be sure that my GOOD seats arn't cancelled. He said not necessary....says TM will not cancel any. The 4 good seats were will call window day of show.
Christmas morning about a week later I gave the kids a card that told them about the 4th row seats...they went nuts...show was in March...I'm a hero...
One week later my 8 upper level tics still not arrived. I log in to the TM site. Site shows 4, 4, and 4 purchased....but one of the sets has $0.00 next to it. I freaked and clicked....to my horror the 4 4th row seats were cancelled !!!!!!!!
I called...basically they read the 8 ticket rule to me...and guided me to TicketsNOW. At this point I had to buy the available 6th row seats on TicNOW...My kids would be crushed if I didn't have good seats at this point.
I purchase the 6th row for 1.5 TIMES as much as the originals. TicketMaster got about a 25% fee from EACH TICKET....this was added to the SCALP PRICE...
I WAS RIPPED OFF !!!!!!!!!!
I wrote a letter the the PREZ, CEO and CFO of TM explaining the situation. Not a peep out of them. Then the day after the concert, I receive a letter saying they were refunding my fees but not the difference in ticket price...they said to obey the rules in the future !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Check for TicketMaster lawsuit and you'll see that I'm not alone in being ripped off by this company.

Yeah they make good money but I live in hope that one day they will choke on their own vomit (and that includes Ticketmaster and their practices).... Can you tell I am not a fanboy :-) Bit of a toss up for me... whether they are just above or just below politicians (of all colours) on the crappy-est profession list. |

My favorite rip off is for charity concerts. The artist works cheap, the radio station get to do something for their fan base, and get some publicity, the charity (in this case a local children's hospital) gets about a quarter of the face value. Tickets go on sale and are sold out through ticket master in seconds, literally less than one minuet. Then ticket master redirects inquiries to the scalper sites where they are sold for 4-10 times face value, screwing over the artists and the charity the profits were supposed to go to.
Why Microsoft and Intel are constantly faced with monopoly charges and TicketMaster is allowed to control every concert and show, nail you for the "Convenience fee" and then sell 99% of the tickets to popular shows to their friends in the "resale" market. Every time I deal with thee blood sucking scum I swear I will never deal with them again, I spend six months seeing music in small clubs and at the local university, and then some show comes along that I have to see, and I chuck my resolutions and feed the beast again. |

I absolutely hate Ticketmaster. I used to love when shows were vendered through TicketWeb, because the fees were less than 25% of the face value. So what did Ticketmaster do to the nice business that wasn't raping patrons? Bought it and used the moniker to start raping patrons under a new name. Bullshit processing fees and ticket fees for e-tickets. E-TICKETS! I'm paying for the ink and paper and they still charge me for my damn ticket!? |
