I just purchased a Vivitar Macro Lens yesterday (used). MF 55mm f/2.8 I just tried to add it to my list of lens' and guess what it isn't there...hmmm so now what...how do I list that lens?
I got this one as the dealer I went to didn't have any Nikon/Nikkor lens. I was looking for Nikon AF-S Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED. But I wasn't totally sure that that was what I wanted...so I am going to give this lens a try and see what I get...I basically paid a little more than what I would have if I had rented the Nikkor lens for the 2 wks that I wanted it for our trip this next wk.
It has been years since I used manual...
so did I totally screw up??? |

Not as far as manual focus goes: the best way to do macro IS with manual focus. For extreme macro, you focus then move camera back and forth until your zone's in focus.
I don't know how much you paid, but it sounds like if you would have rented anyway then you made out OK. Of course, if the lens is crap then you didn't, but I wouldn't expect it to be that awful...

I had a Vivitar lens years ago on my Canon A-1 and it was a terrific lens. Just play with it and see how it works!

| Now this is where your tripod earns its keep! Seriously, though having to focus manually esp for macros means that you have to work like nuts to get a really good, clean shot, it's worth the aggravation. And remember the bad ol days when EVERYTHING was manual... |

I paid $140 for the lens....for the 2 wk rental it was going to be about $100...so this way I get a lens to keep out of it...
Tri-pods...now there is another subject...I have a very, very old (25 years) tri-pod that was originally purchased for a VHS recorder...but I discovered yesterday that I can get a new head...(man, oh man wouldn't my family be delighted with that idea)...sooo here is my additional question...what kind of head should I be looking for (I know I want flexibility in it as the one I have now is very "fixed" and does not have the range of motion that I am looking for) and about how much should I pay for one (hopefully used) just looking for a range...
thanks so much for the info... |

Send a ticket to Langdon with lens description and such and ask to have it added to the database.
