I know we have had a swine flu thread that has since went to the rant forum. I wanted to post this thread in hopes that we keep it civil and learn a little more about this virus. This is not a panic thread nor a thread to make lite of. Lets please keep this thread as informative as possible. - Thanks.

As of May 8,2009 the US has approximately 2500 probable and confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu virus. As of 11:00 the CDC is reporting that out of the 2500 cases 1639 are laboratory confirmed and cover 43 states and the district of Columbia.

Today's press briefing was very informative and you can listen to it here. If you have time please take about 20 minutes to listen to the press briefing. I feel you will find it very informative both if you have anxiety or complacency about this new virus.

Thank and I hope you find this helpful.
Below you will find a few charts.

Interesting map. I can see Ca, AZ, and Tx having large numbers of cases due to large numbers of immigrants. But wow, I didn't realize IL and WI would have such a large number. A map I'd like to see is the number of people per state undergoing self-imposed isolation. I live in NC and the entire number shown are in self-imposed isolation.

Do you know if the cases in IL were in Chicago? Just wondering why there was such a huge concentration there. Would be really odd otherwise.
ETA: Not even Swine Flu wants to live in Wyoming. HA!
J/J. I actually don't live far from there so I shouldn't knock it. Besides, maybe I SHOULD move there to avoid this whole thing...

Keep in mind that that traffic flows both ways. It amazes me, but there hasn't been much drop off of Americans crossing into Mexico during this outbreak, but there hasn't been. Tijuana is home to the world's busiest border crossing with about 300,000 people crossing the border between San Diego and Tijuana every day on average. Given that rate of traffic, it is amazing that there has been so little transmission of infection.
