| The weirdest thing started happening today. My PSPX2 won't open! I thought maybe something got corrupted so I did a repair. Still wouldn't open. So, I tried to uninstall. It wouldn't let me. So I tried to just reinstall over it (again got a repair message, and so tried that again). If I look at the task manager after trying to open it shows up in the processes tab using 5968k, but not the applications tab. This is the only program acting wonky on my computer. PS still runs as does Picasa. I've rebooted several times. I've done virus scans (none detected). I have 2 gigs of ram, 110 gig free space on the drive I'm running it on, PC Vista system. Any suggestions? |

Could be the Protexis DRM service isn't running right. You could try removing it, per these instructions:

| I had problems with mine a few times so i disabled the Corel I/O process and the Media Cataloger and that seemed to help...you might want to try that... |

| Try logging into the computer with another user account. If it then works, then it is something in the individual user profile causing the issue. |

| This has driven me crazy all day! I'm going to try Neil's thing tomorrow. I've just tried a system restore to a few days ago, and I get an error on that, it won't do it. So maybe I have some stealth virus or something. It's just weird that it's not affecting anything else. |

I'm the only user on the computer. LOL! |

You should still have an administrator account, but the easiest thing to do is to go into the "users" section of the control panel and create a new user account.
I have seen similar behavior with other applications at times. I think you have a corrupt or partially removed application and partial registry information. In my case, I might manually delete the program files and it's registry entries, but I don't recommend poking in the registry unless you are are sure of what you are doing. |

I've heard of the problems with the media cataloger. I'm using PSP XI myself and disabled it because the app was taking almost 10 minutes to start up. You might want to go down that route.

I've seen cases where PSP (and others) get really goofed up. Before doing a reinstall of the app it is good to run msicu (Microsoft Install Clean-up Utility) //support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 to remove PSP and to delete the Corel PSP X2 directory from c:\program files\Corel\
**be careful with MSICU to remove only PSP (you can really break stuff with the utility)
As others mentioned if you do not use the Organizer then disable the Media Cataloger service
While you are at it, disable the Photo downloader which is another hog like adobe likes to sneak on our systems.
File > Preferences > General Preferences > Photo Downloader (uncheck everything)

Thanks for this! This will be on my morning agenda! |
