Seriously? 6 x 2's and 6 x 3's?

Is it really that bad? C&C welcome please.

Makes no difference if it is good or bad per se, people vote how they want/perceive an image to deserve for whatever reason. Even the best images get low votes. Remember no one likes your image as much as you do.

On the c/c side - maybe too many spiders (my first impression) or perhaps a better set-up/composition based on the title you applied to it? I see the closet door, but it does not strike me from the composition that I should be careful opening it. What I see is that I should approach it with a big fly swatter. Just my opinion.

NOTE: Did not enter, vote, view the images in this challenge.

This scored a 5.56 which although statistically is at or just above an average score, in DPC terms is still quite a good shot. DPC voters can be a little ruthless.... and nearly every shot (even ribbon winners) get 1's, 2's and 3's in the voting.

I gave this a 7 for creativity, seeing no other similar shots. But, the spiders do look a bit artificial and the setup a bit staged, which is perhaps what some voters may have taken into consideration.

In additon to what has already been said I notice that there is a great deal of noise in the shot as if it was under exposed and then brightened afterwards in PS
This could also lead to a low mark from some voters.

Also I don't find the composition of the shot very interesting.

In general, "chaotic" images, no matter how well conceived, fare relatively poorly at DPC, and that's what I see happening here... The voters, *as a group*, prefer images with clearly defined subjects. Your opening is competing with the spiders for the "subject" slot, and that's not gonna work real well. If there was a single spider much closer to the camera, somehow, "looming" a little bit, that would help keep the viewer focused on the arachnoid aspects of the nightmare, perhaps?

Interesting little stat there if you ask me.

I liked it - it was well composed and the lighting was very effective - it just didn't really hit me as something to be ascared of. :>) I don't think any kind of crop would have increased it's visual impact at all - it's fine as it is in my opinion.

It looked like a stock horror shot though which was pretty much how I viewed most of the images in this challenge - the standard B horror movie slow reveal kind of thing?

This will probably set off a riot, but as a "genre" image, I thought it was much better than the blue ribbon winner which really is a nature shot more than it is a "nightmare" shot, but that's my personal opinion.

I rated it an eight by the way.

Later,

Tom
