I went out yesterday afternoon looking for some active birds for the current animals challenge. The Egrets and Herons were not terribly active, but I got some interesting shots of this guy casting a fishing net from a dam on the river. Problem is, the backlit net blends in with the water spray behind him. I'm trying to get the net to stand out from the background and still look natural. The only thing I can come up with is to duplicate the layer and then erase or mask through on the net after adjusting the lower layer. Anybody have a better idea, or even know a way of doing this under basic rules?
Here's the image as it came from my RAW converter, the link to the full sized image is 1024 pixels wide. Thanks.

Thanks. I can't do a thing with it, as far as separating net from BG easily. I have tried various topazes and tone maps and what not, and all of them have the same net/water solipsism. So you're stuck with hand labor I think...

I would seem to me that the 'white' of the net would be really hard to pull out but even if you just had the black outline of it i think it could look really cool |
