Don't you hate it when you lose photos?

I took pictures at a friend's son's first Holy Communion last Sunday and everything went well. Batteries were all charged and the CF card was empty and ready for a bunch of shots. Everyone posed properly and the entire family took turns and participated when told to get all possible combinations.

Same night I plugged my 256mb CF card into my CF reader and had a look. I usually copy them over to my hard disk first but didn't have much time (the hockey game was about to start!) so I selected 'view thumbnails' and proceeded to open pictures in PhotoShop directly from the CF card.

I particularly liked a couple at first glance and quickly did the post processing... and luckily saved the finished result of these two images on my hard drive.

Next day I wanted to go for a walk and bring the camera to take a few shots if I saw anything interesting. I grabbed the CF card from my reader as usual, formatted it and off I went... A few days later when looking for the Holy Communion shots I realized what I had done! You have no idea how hard it was to explain exactly what happened: "A malicious virus attacked my CF card..." Just kidding! - I was painfully honest (and embarrased) by the incident.

Lesson learned: Make it a habit to always copy all files from the media card to your hard disk before looking at your picture... I lost over 30 good pictures...
