I am wondering the differences between these two flashes.
It seems they are very similar with the 550ex hosting mostly just more 'fancy' feastures.. but hmm any other big differences?
both can be used remotley with the ST-E2 right?

You may want to check out this thread; it touched on some of the differences... |

Hi Leaf
The major differences are the 550ex supports Flash Exposure Compensation, can be set to Master in a wireless flash system, can be a slave to the MR-14ex ring flash and has a slightly higher guide number.
The 440ex can only be a slave in a wireless flash system, doesn't support Flash Exposure Compensation (unless your camera supports it) and doesn't slave to the MR-14ex.
Both flashes work remotely with the ST-E2.
Since you have a 10D (which I believe has flash exposure compensation), and unless you really wanted to use some of the advanced features of the 550ex the 440ex should do you nicely.

yeah ok.. thanks that helps.
i think i would go with the people that thought that the 420ex is a good flash and a good one to start with. If i want a slave and master flash at a later time, i can buy the 550ex then.. instead of the other way around.
thanks for the posts.

Badasser vs badass. Badassest when used with the ST-E2.

yeah i quite agree...
i think i might just stick to badass for now.. since i haven't done any flash work yet and perhaps don't deserve the badassest of badasses... then perhaps someday, down the rainbow, i will be fully badassed with the 3 badasses working together

I have badass, badasser and badassest.
Badass is sufficient for most flash work. Only get the 550EX if you have more dollars kicking around. The ST-E2 is also wonderful ... able to shoot the flash off camera. That's what I used to light my Glasses shot for the Silhouettes challenge (lit the background).
