I am relatively new to digital photography. I recently bought a Dimage 7i (used), and have used it on 2 different occassions. Both times, I took several pictures, and turned the camera off. Either later the same day, or the next day, I turned the camera back on, and took a few more shots. All of the pictures that I had taken before had mysteriously disappeared. Am I missing something, forgetting a step, or do you have to download all of your pictures before turning the camera off in order to "save" them?

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration in this matter.

Not being funny here. . . but do you have a memory card in the camera?

razor, since you bought the camera used, the previous owners preferences may be loaded into the camera. Suggest you go to custom functions and reset them to default. You might start there and see what happens.

never used this camera so I dont know if this is applicable, but I know that some older cameras used to have a setting that would write over the first pictures on the card if it was full and you continued shooting. Is this a possibility?

I recently had a similar problem; the CF card was corrupt and erased all my images. If you are able to try a different card in the camera, then you will be able to determine if it's the camera or the card.
