I'm planning to sell a few lenses to a friend soon. What percentage of the original price would you guys say is the right price to sell second-hand lenses considering:

1. They're not mint, but in good condition
2. I've owned them for around 2 years

What other factors come into pricing? I just don't want to go too low in case some haggling goes on. Hehehe.

TIA!

Best bet, go over to eBay this weekend, look for similar lenses, in the same condition. The end auction price is the going price today.

Take a look on craigslist as well. Chances are you'll find the same lenses on there along with ebay.

Camera gear holds its value very well, so long as it's in excellent condition. The major variables are the age of the gear, it's condition, and it's level (cheapo vs. third party vs. Canon L-series).

After 2 years of gentle use, a Canon L-series will be worth almost what you paid, generally. A well-built USM will be worth a little less than that. A cheapo lens like the kit lens will be worth maybe 75% of it's new price.

Doing an advanced search on eBay and looking at completed auctions will give you an idea of what things have gone for. Get a feel for the average selling price, then adjust based on the condition of the lens.

Just make sure you're looking at "Completed Items" and not ongoing auctions.
