1st: Try to ignore Titles
2nd: Go through all entries and pick out what I are my favs (takes me days to do this)
3rd: out of those pick the best and give it the highest score (between 8 and 10)
4th: Compare the rest to my top vote getter
How do you do it?

i never compare one photo to another ! just like each person is diferent!
first off i look at does it fit the challenge in any possible way, not just my way of thinking but in any way or any interpataion
i look at each photo and rate it on its abilities to feel good to my eyes
, are my eyes drawed to what the artist wanted me to be drawed ! (not like my srewy entry which i feel after looking at in on the web site are drawn away from where i intended everyones focus to be) then i look at the focus, contrasts and colors! are they inviting, the only time i have looked at a title is if i cant figure out what the artist was thinking or intending and then i will look for the title to give me a little better insite on the artist.
i could be wrong in my ratings but then again i am way to new at this, but am having a blast learning and trying

I'm still new to the site as well. A couple of weeks ago I started a thread asking about voting and as I see usually happens, got a lot of great feedback and perspective on voting. It was very helpful to me. Different people have different systems, but some things it seems everyone kind of favors. For one thing, comments are very important to pretty much everyone. To some, comments are more imp. than scores. I start every shot I vote on right in the middle ground (5-6), then as I look at it, I look for technical aspects, does it fit challenge, is it thought provoking, creative, overall how it "grabs" me, etc., etc. and score goes up/down from there. And my personal policy is - 1,2or3,8,9,or10...get's a comment absolutely good or bad. Middle ground can be frustrating but the biggest gripe seems to be "fringe" votes with no explanation/reasoning. I agree. There are some great people here who give great feedback. I have learned a lot in a very short time. Perhaps something for SC to consider (sorry :-(, I know you all have a great load already, thanks) is setting up voting where "fringe"votes (like 1,2,9,10) can not be accepted without comments. |

i just give out 2's unless the the photo is stunning ... then it gets a 1.
It's a complicated system, but it works for me :) |

From Hopper's profile:
Challenges Entered: 13
Votes Cast: 4482
Avg Vote Cast: 5.0207
Votes Received: 3074
Avg Vote Received: 5.8214
We should have more trolls.
I would have let this lie and LMAO with everyone else, but he left a very good comment in another thread. I figure if I say something nice, MAYBE he'll comment on my RUST image....
Best,
Bill M.

Well said!!!!!!! I go at it in a very similiar way. Can I see some connection to the challenge, but not necessarily the way I saw it . . . is it pleasing to my eyes, how does it hit me all by itself, and of course, quality and technique. Someone made a good point the other day, too . . . don't just vote on your favs . . . you want to also voice your opinion of the poor and avergage and everything in-between so everyone can learn and see the scores in perspective. |

I knew it Richard. And I also hope everyone else knows I was also kidding. Being sarcastic is risky business over the interent, not every picks up on my jokes when they're read rather than heard :) |
