So I take my picture and then edit it and crop it. I put it on my flash drive and bring it to a local Kodak Printing Machine you see at Wal-Mart. Why is it that it never wants to fit the size I want without cropping some off? Should I be making it a 4x6 for example in editing before taking it to the machine to print a 4x6?

In short, yes. Its a pain, I'll never know why our camera formats don't actually fit the standard print sizes, but I guess it does give us a little scope for error...but printing a whole batch does become really painful when you have to crop it all
