Hey Photopians!

I am concerned with Photos i have been producing with my camera. I enjoy long exposure effects. I experimented with star trails and love the effect of it. I did notice though in one of my exposures i find specs of RGB. Mainly in the dark areas. But not only is it in my long exposures from 10-20 mins, i also notice them on other pictures as well. If i need to explain more i will later when i have more time.I would post the picture but i not know how. But if any of you have these specs, any feed back would be nice.

Thanks.

Sounds like hot pixels to me. Quite a common occurrence with long exposures.

I'm pretty sure you have a Custom function on your camera for Long Exposures that will help eliminate that problem for you. The only thing about the long exposure noise reduction is that it takes double the amount of time to take a picture. Check your manual for more info.

or chroma noise. It would help to see a sample.

i am not super familiar with exposures of that length and their effect on IQ but to me it looks like chroma noise... if you look at it zoomed in or in your case at 100% you can see the red (and green) specks in the sky as well...
