I am curious about people's experiences with photography before digital capabilities came to be. My father was a collector of cameras---anything camera. He didn't take many photos if I remember correctly, but he did like collecting equipment. That was great for me because I had my hands on everying camera related--I used all his cameras, lenses, tripods, lighting equipment, etc.. My father also got into collecting dark room equipment, and I also used all of that. I would turn my mother's larger bathroom into a darkroom and printed all my own photos. We had a unique store in Miami called Gold Triangle, and they sold photographic chemicals and papers. I would go weekly and buy different papers, etc. We also processed all of our own black & white film too--sometimes I can still close my eyes and smell those pungent chemicals. AT 17 I attended the Ft. Lauderdale art institute photography program---it was a summer program--first semester and the very first time I was on my own away from my parents in Miami. It was a summer of growing up, as well as learning photography. All of the instructors were professional photographers, and very interesting, artistic people. In high school I was on the school paper and doubled as a reporter and a photographer. I've used many different film cameras including Nikon, Olympus, Konica, Minolta, Hasselblad, and Mamiya. Photography has always been a part of my life since my teenage years and will continue to be so..... |
