Twelve and Under. Despite what appear to be several threads bemoaning or otherwise supporting the notion, I don;'t see where its ever been done.
Cliche or no, some of the very best images I've seen involve children only. So, if it hasn't been done, it seems it certainly should be done. At least once, if only once.
Heck the 2008 winning photograph for Digital Camera Magazine involves only children at play and it's exceptional.

I really like the idea, however if you don't have children then photographing other people's children is a real issue in this day an age without parental permission

That sounds like a good idea to make children the subject of a challenge. In some countries though, it's not considered proper to be photographing children, which may be a problem for DPC'ers that live in those areas.
My best scoring shot was of my grandson swinging on a rope swing. We did the shoot in about 5 minutes from conception to done.

I got really excited there for a second. I thought you meant a children's photography challenge. My son is 10, and he entered a photo in the state fair last year. He keeps asking me "how old do you have to be to join?" and he wants to hit the update button all the time to see how I'm doing.
It would be fun to have a challenge kids could enter--people could give them feedback keep in mind they're under 12 years old. |

So would that challenge be strictly kids only? I don't really think there would be that many entries... |

A kid's challenge only has been posited before. I also think it's a good idea as well, but I'm not sure that one got off the ground either. |

I thought the same thing for 30 seconds. And I still think it would be interesting to have a DPC Children Photographer only contest but of course there would be pros & cons.
Still, you realize that your 10 year old son can join in if you sign and take responsibility for him DPC Waiver for Minors
I signed for my eldest back when she was 8 and she has done some challenges off and on (only the ones that interest her:-) ). She is now 10 and her last challenge was participating in the 1,000 Hidden Gem Challenge.

I like both ideas, but there are drawbacks to each. As Lutchenko said, photographing children these days can be tricky, since parents are basically insane (um - Lutchenko didn't say that second bit). As for an "only children can enter" challenge, I'm not sure there are enough active kids on the site to warrant it, though there are a few who are pretty good photographers. It would also give more credence to the idea that "This is a family site" -- a debatable issue. |
