Hey,
I am going to be in Yellowstone in July. Does anyone know of some awesome spots for great pictures? Something off the beaten path that most people wouldn't go to would be great!! We plan on hiking a couple days and I am trying to find the best photo locations to hike to.
Also, any shooting tips for a newbie?
Thanks,
Julie |

At the north end of the park, I suggest driving the Blacktail Plateau Drive, it is a dirt road that nobody seems to want to take - It's where i found this shot that I love.

I love Lamar Valley, it's in the northeast section of the park. Park your car, take a trail to the top of one of the hills overlooking the valley and just wait for the right light. Watch for critters though! |

Read Tim Cahill's book Lost in My Own Backyard. He has some great places that not too many others venture.

Not too many tourists hit the northeast section of the park. And luckily that has always been my favorite area. The scenery is just beautiful there.
If you want to stay away from crazy crowds avoid the lake district. Old Faithful gets crazy hectic too. And don't forget to wander down south to Grand Tetons ... another beautifully scenic area. |

We can probably work something out! I think we are going to be there for four days and I get to plan one of the days so I think the whole day will be "DPC photoshoot GTG" day.
Thanks everyone for your tips!! I am so excited! Is there a must have lens I should get for this trip? We have a Pentax now which my dear hubby and son will have to fight over and I hope to have saved up enough for a Canon 40d by then. What glass should I get with that? We may also borrow my dad's Nikon. What should I get with that camera?
I am so excited to go!! Hopefully I can meet some of you there. |
