I agree...but I also at least want to LOOK at all the entries. Sure I could always go back afterwards but I don't feel I would be doing them justice by either quickly scanning through them or "cherry picking" images after the challenge is over. So um..I said yes. |
"cherry picking" "cherry picking"
If we had much smaller thumbnails no one would be able to practice "cherry picking" and would have to view all photos and maybe vote on them. |

One thing I find funny: We are voting to extend voting on a challenge because some people don't feel they have enough time to vote.
Almost reminiscent of "I know what dude I am. I'm the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!".

what did you base this on??
a quick scan of the last 2 member challenges shows votes and comments were up by a big margin for the 100 years challenge!

I voted no. My score has settled down so I would think most peoples have too. Yes its slowly creeping up and part of me wants to let it carry on but a huge number of votes have been cast already so Im happy.
I want to see who did what and read where why 7 how some shots where taken : )
Can always make comments on the shots after the challenge ends. I will be looking through them all for probably the next week on & off to heck out what I havent managed to get to yet. |

I voted yes for utterly selfish reasons - all these gazillions of votes are really helping my average :)

Voted "NO", because the original consideration for extension was breaking the records... they are broken.

But I don't care if it ends up being extended. |

I say keep it as it is and not extend it.
I took a lot of time out of a short period of time to vote and comment before deadline on every picture.
If it was going to be extended it should have been from the beginning like some people asked for back then. Some people wanted two weeks back then and it didnt happen. I dont think it is fair to add the extra week now. I could have paced myself better to in the voting and commenting and so could have others who worked as hard if this was done earlier.
This challenge has taken the place of two opens to. A lot of us belong to side challenges we would like to see get back to normal. That is no excuse but its my opinion because I am in those side challenges.
I agree with the other poster who said that not much more can be added now. Most people have a ton of comments and a good amount of votes. Adding a week wont really change things.

I vote No. It's really not going to change much, and the voting has slowed down quite a bit. For those who still want to comment, the main purpose is to give comments to the photographer, and you can do that anytime--the challenge doesn't need to continue.
I do think the 20% should be relaxed, though. |

I base it on this thread where voters were asked to please vote in the 100 year challenge because most people were voting in the 1000th challenge. As you see the voters rose to the challenge and voted causing the challenge to become a success, vote wise.
I also base my figure on mathematical and current statistical data as of last night on the 1000th challenge. The numbers I posted was not random number but rather data logged into a spreadsheet showing what the outcome would be over the next 250 votes after the scheduled rollover. See fig 1 below. Using both the high and low vote extremes a 1/2 point up or down, to me, does not justify extending the voting period another week where it may effect the voting on the upcoming two exclusive challenges.

But if your score was below your average imagine how much that would be hurting right now. Just as well none of us are in it for the scores eh? |

I am amazed at the number of comments, views and votes in such a large challenge. Even so, I just want it to end when it is supposed to end to make room for the next round of voting. |

If you click on the challenge details it shows we already have over 1/2 a million votes which will have DPC down for 12 hours while it calculates the results.....this gives the commenters who did over 1,000 comments a chance to rest their weary brains and sore typing fingers:-) :-) :-)
As much as I would like to leave more comments, I am with the majority on this one - time to wrap things up
----and hopefully DPC won't be down for too many hours calculating:-( |

I voted no just because it would mess up the scoring for the DPCO-IV |

While I really appreciate all the time people put into commenting, there was nothing in the last 45 comments I received that was not already said in the first 15 comments. I can perhaps understand more time for voting, but the heavy commenters (Go Heavy Commenters!) have been so sucessful that more time to comment is not needed, at least for my photo. |

i don't doubt the effects of another 250 votes will (not) have on the final scores, that is why i deleted that part of your post from my quote!
i just doubted what you said about the effect of voting and commenting on the other challenges.
I didn't see the thread asking for more of this on the 100 years challenge!

Hidden Gem has already been a successful, record-breaking challenge.
It has dominated the site and it's time to move forward. I want to see who-shot-what!

No problem. Yea it seemed to have had an effect on the 100 year challenge and I'm afraid it could do the same to the upcoming exclusive challenges. On the plus side if anyone wanted to continue to comment they could do so after the voting period is over at rollover.
With this said I know a lot of voters have long work days and are busy during the day, more so than I. So I understand some wanted the voting period extended. And please don't get me wrong when I say I appreciate every vote I have received and hope to receive before rollover and would appreciate the additional votes if rollover is extended along with comments.
I do applaud everyone that would like the voting period extended so you can have time to vote and comment on more photographs. But I don't want it to be at the expense of other challenges.
Thanks,
Scott
