Am in the final throws of purchasing a D70. I can buy one with a 28-80 'D' lens in the high street for a little over £800. My A1 is currently on Ebay and I'd hope to get around £400 for the lot.

An Ebayer is offering his D70 with a Sigma 28-300mm for my A1 and £400. He reckons the lens retails for £180.

Sound like a good deal? Should I go for this or stick with the high street and take my chances on the A1 selling for a good price? I would probably make more use of a longer lens than the kit lens (but would need one)

well considered the pound is 3 times the value of AUS dollar, that makes it about $1200 for camera and lens.

The camera and base nikkon lens retails for a package price of $2300 here. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Sigmas Canon-mount version of that lens is about $300 US. it's pretty sharp, and fast enough at lower focal lengths...a little slower when zoomed, but that's par for the course.

I've been happy with it.

I'd always prefer to buy lenses and cameras from a retail outlet where if summin goes wobbly I can change it, especially as they are precise pieces of engineering.

I'd also suggest getting the camera from a retailer. The D70 is new enough that there are some *minor* production issues. Also I'm not sure how the warrenty works if you transfer it between owners.

I'm using the kit lens and like it just fine. :)

Thanks for the input folks. I thought long and hard at work today about this and think I should stick with a retailer (I guess the warranty is an important issue).

Now I'm torn between the 'G' lens and 'DX' lens (again), I think I'll wait to see what the A1 fetches before ordering one :)
