It's just now starting to bother me and before I start searching all over the internet I was hoping that someone here might have a clue what is going on and where I need to go to fix it.

When I click on a link in an email and it opens a web page it seriously takes more than 15 seconds to open. I can actually click on a link, and while I am waiting I can click on Firefox have a window open and I can update DPC and browse the forums before a new window opens with the link information I clicked in the email.

Anyone???

Sounds like it is trying to locate the web domain referenced in the link. If you can quickly get to a site you have recently visited, but going to something new takes a while, you may have a slowdown with the DNS server at your internet provider resolving the domain to an IP address.

I once had a similar issue and it turned out my ISP had changed DNS servers, but my own setting were not updated. The first time I visited a site during a session, it took 15-30 seconds. What was happening is that it was trying to get it through it's non-existent default DNS server and finally gave up and rolled over to using the one that was actually out there.

Try using these settings for your primary and secondary DNS servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Here's the link to learn more about what this is: Open DNS

I switched over to using these at home a few weeks back when Charter was acting flakey and I recognized it as a DNS problem. It's been working nicely.

Let me know if you need a screenshot to show you where to enter these IP addresses.

I thought that too but I can visit a new site directly by clicking the FF Icon and typing in the address. I've flushed the DNS and cleared the cache but I still get the same problem. I also get the same problem if I click on an email with an address I have been too. for example if you email me a link to dpc and I click on it, it still takes 15+ seconds for MS Outlook to send the request to FF and have FF to open the link.

It's just weird.

Now I have narrowed it down to the problem being in outlook because I can click on the same link in gmail and it opens right up.

I'm out of brilliant ideas, other than switching to something like Mozilla Thunderbird. Depending on what functions of Outlook you use, that may or may not be an option. You could at least give T-bird a try for troubleshooting purposes and see if links open quicker from it.

Does anyone else have this problem or have any ideas?
