6.9000 NO fractions after 410 votes!!!!

6.9 is a fraction. It's 6 and 9/10.

A 0.9 when it passes the 6 figure is hardly a fraction, in essence, being in such a huge contest! Wouldn’t you agree?

0.9 is a fraction. Anything less than one is a fraction. Nearly everything is a fraction in essence, as long as it can be expressed as a ratio of two whole numbers. If it can't then it's an irrational number. That's a sort of inaccurate description of the use of the term 'fraction' in mathematical contexts.

Outside of mathematical contexts or in the vernacular, as it were, the term is less precise. It has a sort of relative connotation in common usage, where it may mean that something is as good as irrelevant by comparison to something of which it is a part or with which it stands comparison. e.g. 'the cost of education is a fraction of the state budget', or, 'fab-o-wipe will take care of all your cleaning needs at a fraction of the cost of more conventional methods'.

3/2 fits the mathematical usage (or one of them) but not the vernacular. Even so, the larger the sample, or the larger the number of entries in a challenge, the smaller any individual entry or number becomes when expressed as a fraction of the whole.

So I wouldn't agree.

Could be you're trying to say that 6.9 is a good score, and even more so in the context of this particular challenge. That I agree with :)

Would really like to hit 6.5, but I'm very happy where I'm at. I've had some really flattering comments. Thank you to everyone who left them!

omg. You lost me in the first sentence with the word "fraction". I am so not a math person and that is why I dont calculate my own scores. hahaha.

FYI, I scored as follows:
5 x 10s, 16 x 9s, 19 x 8s, 23 x 7s, 175 x 5s and 877 x 3s. No 6's, no 4's and no 1s or 2s.

I just want to be one of those 5s.

I think you missed the whole point, when the word “fraction” was introduced into this discussion it meant “little bit”, “small part”, “trivial amount” or “tiny proportion” so it is just a part of our vernacular connotation not more. So again and in essence .9 is big and you agree to that. So thanks

Not that my own entry is doing very well although the comments have mostly been very positive:

Not as a joke here. I am out of state without my computer (so sucks!!!!!!). No photoshop, no archived pics, no time to create anything genius in the midst of being a caregiver after a family member had surgery. However, there was no way I was going to miss being a part of this challenge. Snapshot city here I come!!!! So, not all the "bad" pictures are jokes. Some are just creations of circumstance.

Also, as I was going through and commenting on the pics, some that I thought weren't that good had a very nice artistic quality to them that I missed first pass through. In addition, it's possible that the less processed shots come from brand new DPC members and some of those are youngsters jumping on the DP bandwagon. I have to remind myself this as I vote and comment. I still use the whole range for voting, but I can be so critical at times. I promise, I am really trying to be nice with all my critiques! They are an attempt to be encouraging and helpful at the same time as being honest.

Although, knowing the jokesters DPC is sprinkled with, I am sure that at least one person is shooting for the brown!

(just my 2 cents for whatever it's worth).
